With award season in full swing, the one thing on everyone’s mind is FASHION! Okay, maybe it’s just us here at K Couture who are fully red carpet obsessed right now. So far this season we have seen a lot of whimsy florals and pretty pastels. Last night at the Oscars we did see some leading ladies continue with this trend such as Scarlett Johannson wearing Alaia, Octavia Spencer in Marchesa, and Felicity Jones wearing Dior. However, the trending colors of the night were gold, white and red. Some of the golden girls of the night included Jessica Biel dazzling in a sequin embellished Kaufman Franco gown, Nicole Kidman wearing a stunning beaded Armani gown and Charlize Theron in a rich metallic Dior gown. Naomi Harris wearing a knee length Calvin Klein dress with a train, Auli’i Cravalho in a gorgeous scallop hemmed Rubin Singer gown with gold detailing and Karlie Kloss in a sleek and chic Stella McCartney gown were all visions in white. We did see some red hot stunners as well including Viola Davis in an off the shoulder Armani, Ginnifer Goodwin in a red Zuhair Murad gown with lace details and Sara Bareilles in a sleek red Romona Keveza gown.
And the Oscar Goes to…: Our Picks for Best Dressed
Hailee Steinfeld wearing Ralph and Russo
Hailee Steinfeld look absolutely breathtaking in this shimmering Ralph and Russo gown. Hailee is not afraid to go a little sheer, as we saw with the gorgeous lavender Vera Wang gown she wore to the Golden Globes earlier this year. But this gown is her most daring look yet. This sheer gown with embroidered flowers was our favorite look of the night.
Emma Stone in Givenchy
Emma Stone is the epitome of Hollywood glamour in this sparkling golden gown with a fringed skirt. Emma’s previous looks this awards season have been more whimsical and flowy but this look stands out as being ultra glam. Her soft curls, golden smokey eyes, and deep burgundy lips are styled perfectly to compliment this gown.
Ruth Negga wearing Valentino
Ruth Negga looks absolutely radiant in this gown which is the perfect combination of being modest and classy without losing pizzazz. The sheer and lace bodice breaks up the dress so the red isn’t too overpowering and Ruth’s updo is the perfect compliment to this high neck shape of the gown.
Janelle Monae is not afraid to “go big or go home” as they say. This season she has been wearing a lot of black and white looks and always has an interesting hair accessory. She did not disappoint last night in an Elie Saab gown which is in a similar style that she has been wearing all season but is even more stunning and dramatic than her previous outfits. There are very few people who could pull off this sheer top with beaded and embroidered birds to keep her from being too exposed. The panelled skirt with gorgeous rows of beading has a black tulle overlay with additional embroidery. This gown is not just a dress, it is a work of art. Janelle Monae is definitely one to watch on the red carpet.
Our second honorable mention is Taraji P. Henson wearing a deep navy velvet Alberta Ferretti dress. With its deep v-neck, off the shoulder sleeves and high slit this gown was definitely a stunner. Taraji wore a diamond statement necklace and minimalistic heels to finish off the look. In a similar way to Emma Stone, Taraji P. Henson has been wearing gowns that were a little more bright and whimsy this season but went for all out glam for the Oscars.
One more star that we can’t help but mention is Chrissy Teigen in a white and gold embellished Zuhair Murad gown. The high leg slit in this gown was the standard Chrissy Teigen sass, but the modest sleeves and neck line kept it classy for the biggest night in film. The gold sparkle embellishments on the bodice and top of the skirt perfectly highlighted Chrissy’s face. She kept her shoes and accessories neutral to let the gold embellishments shine.
50 Shades of Blue: The Men of the Night
We can’t forget to give a shout out to the dapper gentlemen of the Oscars. The big trend for men was blue. Some of the men including Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson and Terrence Howard went for a blue jacket paired with black pants. But a few went for the full blue ensemble including Riz Ahmed in Ermenegildo Zegna and Chris Evans wearing Salvatore Ferragamo.
